Laycie's room

Laycie's room was inspired by a  collaboration of Laycie's chosen color palette and my frugal finds.  We purchased items from craigslist and re-purposed things items we already had around the garage.  The window treatments were made from ribbon and woven summer place mats.  I had the ribbon and the place mats we purchased for $3 at dollar store.  In order to maximize her space we had to put the trundle up against the window.  However, traditional curtains became a hazard when jumping on the bed.  So this cost effective window treatment also had a functional aspect.  The shelf was an old wooden shelf lying in the garage.  I added hooks for like $1 and painted.  The dresser was a salvation army find.  I had planned to cover the front of the drawers with damask contact paper but I liked it the way it was in the end.  The vanity I found on craigslist.  This was the most pricey item.  I paid $75 but it was a great find.  It has dual functionality as the mirror can be folded and it becomes  desk.  I plan to either paint or decoupage so stay tuned for that.  I am working on the TV stand so I will keep you posted.  The bed was an old metal trundle that my parents gave me.  The metal is dark brown but with the way I arranged the pillows you cannot see the metal at all.  The trundle works great for sleep overs.  The art work is Laycie's own signature painting.  We paid $1 for the canvas and used old craft paint we had laying around.  Funny thing is the painting was born a year before the room.  It just worked out nicely.  The photo frames and pencil holder we used a damask contact paper purchased at the dollar tree and covered a .50 cent frame and coffee container.  The paper lanterns were also purchased at the dollar tree and just added to the "circular theme" of the window treatments, pillows and polka dot patterns that are scattered around the room.
